The Diamondback varsity football team took a crushing blow this past Friday destroying any hope left for making the playoffs.  The loss to Silverado 42-28 put the team in disbelief as they started off the season strong with five dominant wins and only one loss.

Due to an on the field altercation with Durango High School three weeks ago, the Diamondbacks were issued a forfeit loss and put the team in an uphill battle to try to make the playoffs. The team had a small chance to get in had they beat Silverado and held the Skyhawks to less than 30 point.

“If we won the [Durango] game instead of having the fight we would’ve had a better chance of getting in the playoffs,”  senior Tavel Langstaff said.

Another senior Jimmy Halsell, who was disappointed that the team was not able to get into the playoffs, could not help but think of what could have been if they did not fight at Durango or lose a surprising game on the last play against the Clark Chargers last week.

“It’s definitely not how we planned our season to end,”  Halsell said.
