The film Uncut Gems directed by the Safdie Brothers is coming out on DVD on March 10th. The film stars Adam Sandler as Howard Ratner, a jeweler in New York City’s Diamond District who is struggling with his gambling addiction. Sandler proves that his top tier acting is not just made for comedy.

Unlike Sandler’s other films, this movie is not a slapstick comedy. It’s a roller coaster of emotions. It’s nerve wracking at some points and extremely frustrating at others. The plot follows Sandler’s character, Howard Ratner, whose extreme gambling has put him in deep debt that he must pay off by retrieving an expensive gem. The movie is so tense while also frustrating because every time Ratner gets the money to pay off his debt, he tries to make more money which only creates more problems.

Some might not be convinced that Sandler could pull off such a serious role, but his charm makes him perfect for it. He plays the character in a way that even though the audience can see Ratner is repeatedly getting himself into more trouble with his gambling, but they will still root for him to get his life back on track.

The relationship dynamics in this movie are also very interesting. Throughout the whole movie Ratner is dealing with his own problems with the gem and gambling addiction while going through struggles with the people in his life. He catches his girl friend cheating on him with a famous rapper. He also has to deal with the hatred his wife shows him while maintaining a good relationship with his son.

All of these aspects create a crazy experience that will leave the viewer in shock even after the movie has ended. Adam Sandler alongside the Safdie Brothers have created an incredible film that is completely worth buying  or renting on DVD.
